My name’s Maura (rhymes with duh).
I like to tell stories however they're told best.
I'm a freelance visual journalist and multimedia producer based in Atlanta, Ga. using photos, videos, words, social media, code and GIFs to put together award-winning packages.
So like, a Journalism Renaissance Woman.
I also serve as a contributing editor for Scalawag Magazine, "a nonprofit dedicated to celebrating and examining the American South."
My journalism honors include an EPPY, 2014 Dart Award finalist, Associated Press awards for photojournalism, multimedia and best website, the "Award of Excellence" from the Society of News Design, Green Eyeshade Awards for "Best Website" and "Best Multimedia," the McGill Journalism Fellowship and the Cox Media Leadership Certificate.
I previously worked as a multimedia reporter at the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Before Tennessee, I soaked up experience and mentors at the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and its visual journalism program (#UGAVJ, y'all) and New Media Institute. I was executive editor of Ampersand Magazine during my time there.
I aim to tell intimate stories that make people act.
I also aim to write poetry and eat a lot of cheese.
I’m always available for assignments, collaborations or to grab coffee.
